gloomy day

So, last night I was feeling very adult and grown up and at peace with life & stuff, and then this morning, I wanted to scream. The schedule for next week came out, and it has me specifically driving Adam (note: this is a different Adam than the one from V-Day) to and from the Center 4 times during the day on Monday. This frustrated me for 2 reasons: 1. ADAM HAS A CAR! They rented him his own car so he could drive himself around. and 2. On Monday, I already feel pulled in 2 directions as I need to be setting up at the theatre and watching run-thrus at the studio, but they've eliminated the chance for me to watch several run-thrus because of this taxi-ing. And also, at the staff meeting this morning, there was some comment made about taking these guests of the ballet school to the airport and fetching the van on Monday. I avoided making eye contact because I felt like if I did, they'd ask me to do it (when I'm already in 3 places at once).

Additionally, Leslie today tells me she'd like to send b-roll of Company B and can I video rehearsal and then make a DVD with the clip from Devolve that we took Monday (because I wasn't planning on doing anything else like watching run-thrus today). Luckily, we found out that we can't do that due to contracts, so I just had to make the DVD of Devolve.

And MH asked me to help set up chairs for the board meeting in the middle of the rehearsal I was going to watch this morning.

It just seemed like the gods were telling me I was never going to be able to get anything done, and it was pissing me off!

So this is what's going through my mind this morning when Dan appears in my doorway and says, "Why do I even bother?" (The cast list for Co. B had gone up this morning and even though Rob was sick last week and he covered for him well, they didn't even give him a show.) So we commiserated and I felt a little better (though not as good as if ice cream or beer--but not both!--had been involved), but then Mike gets back from his meeting at the Center with news about Charlie dying.

Charlie was the wise old props guy at the Center, and he knew EVERYTHING! He's the one who taught me how to fire a gun in December. He got sick right before Nutcracker opened (I was really worried about doing the show without him since I was new and we didn't have Vincent this year), and the doctor said it was arthritis, but turns out he had cancer. Everywhere. Last week, Mike told me he'd been in the hospital, but there was nothing they could do, so he'd been released so he could die in his home. And he did.

Rest in peace, Charlie. I will miss you.
