the act of cleaning out my closet and the sorting of my things into "storage," "summer," and "goodwill" piles is refreshingly cathartic (even though it makes me feel fiscally irresponsible to see the amount of things i plan to donate).
also, the sleeping on the couch because the sheets have been laundered and packed already solidifies the "rite of passage" feeling that accompanies the packing up of all of one's belongings for a move, even one so anticlimactic as this where i know i will return in several months. i have to admit, though, as much as i abhor moving twice a year, i do enjoy the "running away" feeling i get when i leave a city (and all my history there) behind, even if it's only temporary.
