Land of the Free?

One of the pieces for the showcase I'm stage managing (Kim's piece) is performed to the Star Spangled Banner arranged for solo electric cello a la Jimmi Hendrix. It's incredibly powerful. There are three dancers, unnamed, but they represent a father, mother, and soldier, and during the course of the piece, the soldier dies. The distortion and feedback in the music combined with the harsh reality of violence in the choreography makes it difficult to watch, which indeed is part of her goal with the piece. Art that makes you think. Dance that makes you uncomfortable.

Times like this, I remember why I got into this business in the first place.
